Late entries:

Recognises event or sponsorship professionals with under five years’ professional experience (as at 7 April 2026) who demonstrate leadership and industry potential. No age limit.

Entry by self-nomination or nomination.
Candidate must be an NZEA member.

The award
All finalists from the Excellence Award categories will automatically gain entry to this Award.
The event receiving the most votes from the public during the voting timeline will win ‘New Zealand’s Favourite Event 2026.Process:
Public voting for New Zealand’s Favourite Event of 2026 will open in July 2026.
The New Zealand public will be able to cast their vote through a public poll for any of the eligible finalists.
The winner is determined through a first-past-the-post format – i.e. whoever gets the most votes wins! So, finalists have a great opportunity to get active with their audiences! -
The award
This Award recognises an individual or a team who has made an outstanding contribution to advancing the New Zealand events industry either over their career or through a specific multi-year project. The Award is by third-party nomination only, and there is no fee attached to this.Nominations for this Award close 1 June 2026 (note this is later than for all other categories).

1. Preliminary research will be conducted by NZEA on all nominees. Note that the NZEA Board may make nominations also.
2. The NZEA Board will identify a shortlist to be the subject of further research and consultation with industry leaders. The winner will be decided by the NZEA Board.
3. There will not be finalists in this category, the winner will be announced at the Awards Gala Evening.

How do I make a late entry?
If you can’t submit your entry by the standard deadline of 11:59pm, Sunday 19 April 2026, you can still submit a late entry until 11:59pm, Thursday 23 April 2026.
Late entries incur an additional fee of $80 + GST per entry.
You don’t need to make prior arrangements — the late fee will automatically be added to your entry if it is submitted during the late entry period.
What if my event is a series with some events outside the qualifying period?
If the majority of the series falls within the qualifying period, the series is eligible to enter.

Can I enter the same event into more than one category?
Yes. The same event can be entered into multiple categories, as long as it meets the eligibility criteria for each category.
What if my entry exceeds the specified word count?
Word limits are strictly enforced.
If your submission exceeds the limits:
Only the first 500 words of the Overview will be judged.
Only the first 1,500 words of the Criteria Questions section will be judged.
Where testimonials or references are requested, they must also stay within the specified word count (note that not all categories require testimonials).
What advice do judges consistently give to entrants?
Each year, judges note that many entries don’t fully answer the questions asked.
To give your entry the best chance:
Read each question carefully
Answer exactly what is being asked
Be cautious about your use of AI – make sure the content of your entry is robust and genuine.
If you have additional relevant context, you can include it in the overview provided you remain within the word limit.
Can I engage a ghost writer to write my entry?
Yes! Just ensure the final submission is fully endorsed by you. Also, the person registering and submitting the entry should be the best contact for event-related questions and Award communications—likely not your ghost writer.
